Yikes! Minnesota’s Martell Webster Doesn’t Realize A Dunk Is Worth Only 2 Points

Here’s the team’s explanation to Wolves beat writer Jerry Zgoda, working with the Minnesota Star Tribune, following the game:

“We talked about we needed a three,” Adelman said. “I think he caught the ball, stole it and maybe emotions got the best of him.”

Webster afterward said he was well aware of the time and situation. He said he hoped to either create a foul and 3-point play or score with enough time to foul the Nuggets yet again.

“I don’t know, I don’t know if it was a mental thing, like I shot [a three] before that and didn’t knock it down,” said Webster, who missed a three with the score tied with 53 seconds left. “I just wanted to be aggressive, get to the rim, possibly get a foul. But I didn’t.

“Most people probably would have pulled up for the 3-point shot. Yeah, I can see why they would. If I had to do it over again, I’d probably pull up for a three. Why not?”

After the game Martell Webster Tweeted:

R.I.P. Whitney Houston…

Whitney Houston died yesterday at the age of 48. I remember her growing up for her unquestioned musical talent, her drug addiction, and her turbulent relationship with Bobby Brown.

Since this is a sports blog, I am not going to go into depth, but I always admired her musical talent and she’s definitely died way too long.

Here’s a clip in what many people I know consider the best sports rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” ever. (This was sung prior to Super Bowl XXV in Tampa when the US was at war in Iraq which is why you see so many flags being waived.)

Thierry Henry to the Rescue!

Image via Bleacherreport

Thierry Henry in likely his last Premier League match for Arsenal came on as a substitute against Sunderland and scored the winning goal. It was a huge win for the Arsenal and it tied them in points and goal differential with Chelsea for fourth place in the league!

As an Arsenal supporter I’ve celebrated all day and thought I should post a video of Thierry Henry highlights. The man is my favorite player after all! And all of us Gooners will miss him dearly.

I am in the New York area, so I will be rooting for the New York Red Bulls. Hopefully I can make it to a couple of their games.

Luis Suarez is a Disgrace to the game of Football…

Imaga via the Telegraph

The much-anticipated match between Liverpool and Manchester United happened earlier today. This was Luis Suarez’s first match against United since being found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra. Before the match the FA stated that the obligatory hand shakes would occur unlike what happened in the rematch between QPR and Chelsea after the John Terry incident. Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, said that Suarez would shake Evra’s hand before kickoff, So what happened?

Evra put his hand out and Suarez refused to shake it which lead to a very tense situation between the players on the pitch and the fans. In the end United won 2-1 with Rooney scoring two goals and unfortunately Suarez scoring for Liverpool. The result of the match was irrelevant to me, the actions by Suarez and Dalglish are what mattered most in this situation.

For someone who’s apparently an adult and claims to not have racially abuse Evra, Suarez should have shaken Evra’s hand just to end the ordeal. Instead he decided to not shake Evra’s hand, who is United’s captain with Vidic out. This is just unacceptable.

In addition, Liverpool’s manager, Dalglish (if I hear “King Kenny” again I will lose my mind, doesn’t attend the post-match  conference and claims that he didn’t see Suarez refuse to shake Evra’s hand. Dalglish is full of it. He’s obviously in some type of denial. It’s one thing to support your player when he’s going through tough times and not playing well and even through his suspension, but it’s a completely different thing to not show up to your mandatory post match news conference and claim that you didn’t see what EVERYONE was looking at before the match started. What the hell was he looking at then?

Sir Alex Ferguson, United’s manager, in a statement said that Suarez is a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club, should never be allowed to play for them again and that Suarez’s actions could lead to a riot. Typically I am not a Sir Alex fan at all, but he has very good points here. Liverpool and United play in the early afternoon because of their respective fans and the fact they’ve been many large-scale fights between United and Liverpool supporters. Suarez is a not only a disgrace to Liverpool, but as this post title states, he’s a disgrace to the game of football. In terms of not allowed to play for Liverpool again, that’s not going to happen, so I won’t go on further.

Luis Suarez is a dirty player who’s has done multiple ridiculous things on the pitch. He’s a talented player, but come on! Here are two incidents which show Suarez, well being Suarez.

#1 Last week Suarez kicks Scott Parker of Tottenham in the ‘stomach region:’

#2: In Holland, Suarez bites a player, Twilight style:

Woooooo, I am done venting!

LeBron Isn’t a Top 5 Player? WTF?

I was watching a link a friend sent me from ESPN First Take where Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless ranked their top 5 NBA players. Not to my surprise Skip Bayless didn’t have LeBron James in his top 5, but then I was shocked when Stephen A. Smith didn’t have LeBron James in his top 5 either.

Here was Bayless’ list:

1. Dwyane Wade

2.Kevin Durant

3. Kobe Bryant

4. Dirk Nowitzki

5. Carmelo Anthony

So let me bitch about this list first. Skip Bayless says LeBron comes up small in the fourth quarter consistently, obviously he did in the finals against the Mavs, but he’s had several big fourth quarters as well, especially against the Celtics in the second round. Bayless has Carmelo who has been out of the first round ONE time in his career compared to LeBron never being knocked out in the first round, plus LeBron has been in the finals twice. LeBron has same number of MVPs as the five members of his list has combined. Wooooo saaaahh.

Here’s Stephen A’s list:

1. Dwyane Wade

2. Kobe Bryant

3. Dwight Howard

4. Dirk Nowitzki

5. Kevin Durant

Similarly to Bayless’ list LeBron has the same amount of MVPs as all five people on this list do combined. This list I don’t have as much of a problem with, but LeBron should be on the list. Without Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, LeBron did lead his team to a NBA Finals. If you’re going to knock LeBron down for not coming up big in the fourth quarter throughout the NBA Finals okay, but Dwight Howard never came up large in a NBA Finals and Kevin Durant has never been in the Finals.

My peeve with people making lists like this is that don’t use one argument to put someone on the list and then at the same time use that exact same argument to exclude another person.

LeBron might not be your #1 ranked NBA player, but he definitely should be in your top 5.

Is Blake Griffin Going to Enter the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest?

After initially stating that he will not enter the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest, Blake Griffin has said that he might take part in the Slam Dunk Contest. It’ll be great for the NBA All Star ratings if Blake Griffin comes back to defend his 2011 Slam Dunk Contest Title.

Hopefully JaVale McGee will come back and take part in this years contest as well because he should have won last years. The Blake Griffin dunk of the car was overrated and was done for marketing purposes, if you notice KIA is one of the NBA’s main sponsors. McGee’s dunks were better and more creative than Griffin’s.

At least Griffin was more deserving of his Slam Dunk title than the three Nate Robinson won.

One more point, Blake Griffin is a GREAT in game dunker, but was not very creative when it came to the Slam Dunk Contest.

Here’s the Blake Griffin dunk of the car. With the aid of R. Kelly‘s “I believe I can fly.”

And Here’s Ronaldo!

It’s a Block Party 2010-11 Style, You’re all Invited!

Bored on a Tuesday night, so why not post some of the top blocks from the 2010-11 season.

Note for #1: This is why people marvel at JaVale McGee and DeAndre Jordan.

JaVale McGee aka the Space Cadet…

I was watching a replay of the Toronto Raptors vs. Washington Wizards game, don’t ask me why. Anyways, take a look at the video and you’ll see why people just can’t help but laugh at the Wizards, this time JaVale “Space Cadet” McGee is the culprit.

Just watch McGee take off after his shot.

Kudos to the Wizards who actually won this game 111-108.
